Rabat – Judicial police in Casablanca and Tangier arrested on Monday a suspect involved in a heinous deliberate hit-and-run crime that claimed the life of a woman.
The arrest was in collaboration with Morocco’s General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), which provided judicial police with information about the suspect and his location.
Preliminary data said that police identified the victim as a 27-year-old woman, who was deliberately run over by an unknown car. The driver fled the scene following the murder.
Research and investigation managed to identify the victim as well as the car that caused her death. The suspect was arrested in Tangier in a joint security operation.
The police also arrested another woman, suspected of being involved in setting up a prostitution brothel. Investigation enabled police to determine the woman’s direct connection with both the suspect and the victim.
“She is the one who rented an apartment for the suspect and the victim despite her knowledge that it had been allocated to the practice of adultery,” the police statement said.
The statement stressed that the murder came after a disagreement that escalated to a “deliberate car run-over that led to death.”
Police put the main suspect as well as the woman in custody to determine the circumstances of the case and arrest any potential accomplices.
The hit-and-run accident came just a few weeks following a similar horrific murder, whose victim was a young man in his early 20s.
The crime was documented by a surveillance camera, showing a group of people attacking the victim in a parking lot during a fight between the victim, his friends, and another group.
One of the individuals struck Badr in the head, rendering him unconscious. Moments later, as his friends were trying to assist him, another individual ran them over with his car and immediately fled the scene.
