Agadir – Minister of Energy Transition Leila Benali participated in a conference in Lausanne, Switzerland, focused on Morocco’s energy transition and climate ambitions, highlighting the country’s vision for sustainable development and the role of youth in addressing global challenges.
The conference, titled “The Energy and Climate Challenges of a Kingdom in Transition,” was organized by the EPFL Model United Nations and the Association des Étudiants Polytechniciens Marocains de Lausanne (APML) as part of efforts to strengthen dialogue with talented young Moroccans living abroad and engage with international academic initiatives.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Benali used the occasion to share her academic and professional journey with participants while discussing some of the most pressing energy and climate issues facing the world today.
The discussions focused on “the major energy and climate challenges of the 21st century, energy security issues, ongoing transformations in the energy sector, as well as the role of innovation, skills and youth in accelerating the energy transition and sustainable development,” the ministry said.
Benali also outlined Morocco’s broader strategic vision in the fields of renewable energy, industrial development, and regional cooperation. Participants examined the country’s approach to energy transition, industrial sovereignty, and regional integration, alongside the importance of preparing future generations for emerging economic and environmental challenges.
The minister emphasized the value of investing in human capital, a key pillar of Morocco’s development strategy as the country seeks to expand its renewable energy capacity and strengthen its position as a regional hub for sustainable energy projects.
“The discussions also highlighted Morocco’s vision regarding energy transition, industrial sovereignty and regional integration, as well as the importance of investing in human capital to prepare future generations for emerging challenges,” the ministry added.
The event brought together students, academics, and young professionals, providing a platform for exchanges on climate action, innovation, and the future of energy systems.
The ministry noted that through their initiatives, the EPFL Model United Nations and APML contribute to promoting “dialogue, academic excellence and youth engagement around major global challenges.”
