Rabat – The Moroccan city of Casablanca has secured its position as the fourth-best city in Africa to live, work, and study, according to Brand Finance’s City Index 2023.

With a score of 59.3 out of 100, Casablanca “scores well in terms of consideration for working locally and remotely, investing, studying and visiting, as well as in the attributes
affordable city (27th) and low bureaucracy (57th),” indicated the city brand survey.

Casablanca’s ranking can be attributed to several key factors. The city, often dubbed Morocco’s economic capital, boasts a thriving business ecosystem and a strategic geographical location.

This combination has made it an attractive destination for international investors and businesses looking to tap into the African market.

In addition, the city’s rich cultural heritage and modern urban development have contributed to its brand’s positive perception.

Conducted in April 2023 across 20 countries, the survey aimed to determine how cities are perceived by nearly 15,000 members of the public. The ranking featured a total of 100 cities worldwide.

Leading African cities, Cape Town clinched the top spot with a score of 62.9 out of 100, with the report attributing its success to its status as South Africa’s most visited city, as well as its high familiarity among respondents and its blend of “natural beauty,” diverse culture, and economic vitality.

Following behind, Cairo secured the second place with a score of 60.7, drawing on its rich historical heritage and vibrant urban life.

Johannesburg followed at the third spot with a score of 59.7, ranking highly for future growth potential. The city is considered the “economic powerhouse of South Africa and a significant financial and business hub in Africa,” according to the report.

Meanwhile, the largest city in Nigeria, Lagos, ranked fifth in Africa, with a score of 57.4, followed by the Kenyan capital of Nairobi with a 56.8 score.
