Rabat – As the human and material toll from the El Haouz Earthquake rises in Morocco, several countries have extended their condolences to the North African country.
Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad sent condolences to the North African country, wishing swift recovery for all those who were injured.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also took to social media to express his condolences.
“I convey my best wishes to all Moroccan people affected by the earthquake disaster in friendly, brotherly Morocco,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “May God have mercy on those who lost their lives and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We stand by our Moroccan brothers by all our means on this difficult day.”
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry also expressed sympathies, writing in a press release, “Egypt affirms its complete solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco, as a government and people, in facing the destructive effects of this disturbing and painful incident.”
The Sultan of Oman also sent a cable of condolences to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, expressing sympathies for the victims and their families.
On Friday night, Moroccans across the country felt a shock due a magnitude 7 earthquake near El Haouz.
The official death toll currently stands at 1,037 people, with 1,204 injured and 721 in grave condition.
The casualties are spread over the provinces of El Haouz, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, and Greater Casablanca, among others.
