Rabat – The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs has expressed its heartfelt condolences and unwavering support to Morocco following a powerful earthquake that struck the Al Haouz region last night.
The earthquake resulted in hundreds of casualties and injuries, leaving a profound impact on the affected communities.
In a statement released today, France conveyed its deep sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims.
In addition, it indicated that the French embassy in Morocco and the Crisis and Support Center of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in Paris have established crisis units (Morocco: +212 537689900; France: 01 43 17 51 00) to address inquiries and provide assistance to French nationals affected by the disaster.
France has expressed its full solidarity with Moroccan authorities and citizens amid this tragedy and said it stands ready to offer immediate assistance for rescue and support to the populations affected by this tragedy.
On the night of September 9, around 11:13 PM, a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck the Al Haouz region, located between Marrakech and Agadir.
Initial reports indicate that as of 10 AM today, the death toll has reached 820 across various cities and provinces, including Al Haouz, Chichaoua, Marrakech, Agadir, and Taroudant, among others. Meanwhile, injuries reached 672.
As rescue operations continue, the death toll is expected to keep increasing.
