Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, has been at the center of diplomatic activity during his presidency of the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers. In two separate meetings held in Cairo, Bourita discussed the deepening of bilateral ties with Bahrain and notably participated in the Arab-Japanese ministerial dialogue.

On Tuesday, Minister Bourita engaged in a significant diplomatic exchange with his counterpart from the Kingdom of Bahrain, Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani. The discussions between the two ministers were held in the backdrop of strong cooperative ties between Morocco and Bahrain, which both parties expressed satisfaction with.

The close relations between the two nations owe much to the attentive leadership of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and King Hamad Bin Issa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, Bourita argued. The Moroccan chief diplomat and his counterpart Al Zayani underlined their mutual commitment to advancing these relations further and infusing them with renewed energy, aligning their actions with the shared aspirations of their countries’ sovereigns.

As part of their agenda, the ministers agreed to continue implementing the outcomes of the 5th session of the Joint High Commission, held in Manama on January 26. They also pledged to intensify political coordination and consultation in preparation for upcoming events, including the 33rd Arab Summit slated for March in Bahrain. The discussions extended to various regional and international issues of common interest, with both countries highlighting their harmonious views on these matters.

Morocco Joins Arab-Japanese Political Dialogue

At the third session of the Arab-Japanese ministerial dialogue, Bourita led an important Moroccan delegation that made sure to stress the North African country’s importance in regional affairs.

This meeting brought together Japanese Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, several Arab counterparts, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the Arab League.

Initiated as a result of the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Arab League and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in September 2013, the Arab-Japanese ministerial dialogue serves as a platform for political cooperation and consultation between the two parties at the level of foreign ministers.

In their discussions, the delegates focused on enhancing coordination and exchanging perspectives on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly in the political and economic spheres.

Minister Yoshimasa emphasized the importance of the timing of this meeting, given the significant global developments, including the conflict in Ukraine and escalating tensions in East Asia. He made it clear that any unilateral attempts to alter the status quo through the use of force were unacceptable.

These diplomatic engagements underline Morocco’s active role in strengthening ties within the Arab League and fostering cooperation with international partners.
