Rabat – In a last-minute agreement, Barcelona and Real Betis have finalized a deal for the transfer of Abde Ezzalzouli, the Spanish outlet Marca reported today.
Real Betis will acquire 50% of the player’s rights, with the transfer fee exceeding 10 million euros, the Marca report said, adding that the deal entails Barcelona securing the right to receive 50% of any future sale involving the Moroccan player.
Initially, Barcelona’s plan was for Abde to remain with the club for the upcoming season since he demonstrated his abilities during his loan with Osasuna last season, earning the trust of Barcelona’s manager, Xavi.
While the talented Moroccan winger also ideally wanted to stay with the Spanish champions, he remained open to leaving the club as he anticipated limited playing time.
According to the sports outlet Mundo Deportivo, the young Moroccan winger had informed Barcelona’s coach Xavi Hernandez of his desire to leave up to three times.
With Ezzalzouli expressing his desire to leave Xavis’ team, Real Betis displayed a strong interest in acquiring the player’s services. In fact, Betis’s current sports director, Ramón Planes, has had a longstanding admiration for the player, having brought him to Barcelona during his time as the club’s technical secretary.
The primary obstacle in finalizing the deal was the transfer fee demanded by Barcelona, which was initially set at 20 million euros. As a result, the focus of the negotiation shifted to the acquisition of 50% of Abde’s player rights, eventually resulting in the two clubs reaching an agreement on Friday for the player’s transfer to Real Betis until summer 2028.
Morocco’s U23 captain is now set to start a new challenge in his career and join his compatriot Chadi Riad who also joined Betis during this summer transfer window.
