Rabat – Classes resumed today in earthquake-affected areas across Morocco, including Al-Farabi Middle School in the town of Amizmiz south of Marrakech, according to SNRT News.

As part of efforts by the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports to ensure education continuity, Hassan Kunain, the director of Al-Farabi Middle School in Amizmiz, told the news outlet that classes have resumed after being suspended for days due to the earthquake that struck the area and caused significant material and human losses.

Kunain explained that equipped tents had been set up at the junior high school level, whose classrooms were severely damaged by the earthquake.

The tents were set up in coordination between the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of National Education, Primary Education and Sports in the region of Al Haouz, the local authorities, and the Royal Armed Forces.

For his part, Muhammad Al-Rouhi, an Arabic language teacher at the same school, said that today the students showed up at school today to resume their studies.

He pointed out that in addition to the educational aspect, the focus of these resumed classes will be on the psychological aspect of helping the students overcome the shock of the earthquake and the suffering they have experienced after losing members of their families and some of their friends.

The focus in this first phase will be to help the students through listening and educational and recreational activities, supervised alongside their professors and social attachés who have benefited from specialized training in this field.

The ministry of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports had announced the death of seven teachers among the victims of the earthquake, while 39 teachers sustained injuries of varying severity.

Regarding educational institutions, the Ministry announced that a total of 530 educational institutions and 55 boarding schools were damaged to varying degrees, mostly in the provinces of Al Haouz, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
