Rabat – Morocco’s women’s national football team faced a tough challenge in a friendly match against Zambia on Friday at the Stade Prince Moulay EL Hassan in Rabat.

Despite dominating much of the proceedings, Morocco conceded a 2-0 defeat to Zambia. The first half of the game concluded in a scoreless draw, in spite of both teams sporadically threatening to score.

However, Zambia’s forward Barbra Banda ended the draw in the 50th minute. She also scored the second goal in the 70th minute, handing Zambia a significant victory against one of the best African teams.

Before this friendly match, Morocco’s women’s football team had achieved a historic milestone by qualifying for the World Cup, where they had an impressive run in the group phase.

The achievement made Morocco the first country from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to earn a spot in the prestigious tournament. The Moroccan team’s journey to the round of 16 put them in the international spotlight.

Despite facing an early setback with a 6-0 loss against Germany in their World Cup opener, they secured two consecutive victories against South Korea and Colombia to seal their ticket to the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Zambia made its debut in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, becoming the first landlocked nation in Africa to qualify for either the men’s or women’s football World Cup. However, they were eliminated in the group stage of the tournament.
