Rabat – The University of Mohammed V in Rabat (UM5) secured an impressive array of awards at the prestigious International Innovation Week America IWA 2023 competition on September 16, in Las Vegas.
At the end of the event, UM5 clinched five gold medals and 13 innovation master’s awards. The accolades were a testament to the remarkable work carried out by UM5’s experts and students, particularly those affiliated with the Centre of Technological Innovation of the Mohammedia Engineering School (EMI).
Leading the charge was Professor Ammor Hassan, the Director of the EMI Technological Innovation Center, who was honored alongside a team of innovators, including Qanoune Samiya, Er-Reguig Zakaria, Baayer Jalal, Saim Mohammed Marouane, Alami Mohamed, and Khadiri Mouna.
UM5’s winning projects included an invention that uses radio frequencies for the detection of breast cancer, potentially transforming early diagnosis and treatment outcomes.
Another standout project was one that developed an original miniaturized 4G antenna using microstrip technology to mitigate the thermal effects of GSM radiation on the human head, a development with significant health implications for mobile phone users.
The Moroccan university received awards for other projects including one for detecting Interatrial Septal Aneurysm using deep learning,” and a system to fight against cheating in exams.”
Organized by the OFEED association with the support of the International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), the competition attracted global talent and innovation.
