Rabat – The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, delivered in Marrakech on Thursday a compelling address shedding light on Morocco’s groundbreaking approach to reforming its healthcare sector.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the 2nd African Conference on Health Risk Reduction, Akhannouch emphasized Morocco’s commitment to building a robust healthcare system capable of effectively addressing both current and future challenges.
“In implementation of the High Royal Directives, the health sector is currently living at the pace of an innovative reform project that will allow it to establish a strong health system, with strategic institutions capable of facing current and future challenges with great efficiency and resilience,” he stated.
Morocco’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has served as a testament to the nation’s preparedness and resilience in the face of health crises.
As Akhnnouch highlighted, this preparedness is the result of collaborative efforts across various departments and partnerships that have contributed to more effective and efficient crisis management.
The theme of the 2nd African Conference on Health Risk Reduction, “Health in Africa: Water, Environment and Food Security,” is of immense significance because of the intricate relationship between these factors and the well-being of Africans. Akhannouch emphasized the need for collective efforts and collaborative actions to bolster health and environmental security across the continent.

“Water, environment, and food security face major challenges, especially in the current context marked by the negative impacts of environmental degradation and its impact on the health of Africans and the planet,” he argued.
The Moroccan Head of Government went on to stress that a robust health risk prevention strategy is of paramount importance to reduce the incidence of illness and death resulting from issues such as water quality and malnutrition. Such a strategy not only alleviates pressure on the healthcare system but also eases the economic burden on families, he concluded.
