Rabat – The United States has rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as Israel continues to relentlessly bomb the besieged strip, killing thousands of civilians.
National Security spokesperson John Kirby made the comments on Monday, suggesting “pauses” to allow aid to be delivered inside Gaza instead of a ceasefire.
According to Kirby, About 45 trucks had entered the region through Egypt’s Rafah Crossing on Sunday.
Calls for a ceasefire have poured in from various quarters, including the United Nations and several countries and organizations.
Despite the global consensus that a ceasefire is urgently needed to prevent further loss of life, the United States has maintained unconditional support for Israel, as its occupation forces continue their military operation against civilian Palestinian sites.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said there will be “no ceasefire until Hamas is dismantled”.
“Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism,” he added. “This will not happen.”
While the Biden administration has urged restraint and expressed concerns over civilian casualties, its refusal to push for an immediate ceasefire has generated criticism both domestically and internationally. The United States has historically been a staunch ally of Israel, with the current administration’s position being no different.
Since October 7, more than 8,000 Palestinians have been killed, and over 20,000 have been injured in Gaza due to the ongoing genocide by Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, the Palestine Red Crescent Society has reported that Israel has continued bombarding areas near the al-Quds hospital in Gaza city, causing fear and panic among displaced civilians and health workers.
