Rabat – Canadian-American actor Matthew Perry, who is best known for his role as Chandler  Bing in the famous sitcom Friends, was found dead in his hot tub.

Reports said the official cause of the actor’s death is still not released, but that it could be an apparent drowning.

The actor, 54, died at his house in Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles.

Warner Bros, which produced Friends, released a statement describing Perry’s death as “devastating.”

“We are devastated by the passing of our dear friend Matthew Perry,” Warner Bros told the Los Angeles Times.

The statement emphasized that Matthew was an “incredibly gifted actor and an indelible part of the Warner Bros. Television Group family”

Many of the actor’s friends also took to social media to express condolences and grief over his passing.

Canadian President Justin Trudeau mourned the death of the actor, describing it as “shocking and saddening.”

“I’ll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them. Thanks for all the laughs, Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed,” he added.

Several reports have previously highlighted Perry’s suffering with depression, as he also opened up about his addiction to alcohol.

“I wanted to share when I was safe from going into the dark side of everything again,” he told People magazine.

“I had to wait until I was pretty safely sober — and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction — to write it all down. And the main thing was, I was pretty certain that it would help people,” he added.

Perry spoke about his depression and addiction in memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, which was released a year ago.
