Rabat – Tunisian journalists Achouad Hannachi and Amani Oueslati have announced their resignation from French television channel Canal+ in protest of the outlet’s biased coverage of Israel’s aggression in Gaza.
“Since October 7, my Tunisian colleague and friend, Amani Oueslati, and I have decided to resign from Canal+. We have not set foot in it since then! Our professionalism, our upbringing, and our unwavering support for the Palestinian cause do not allow for compromise! #FreePalestine,” Hannachi said yesterday on Facebook.
These resignations reflect growing concerns about the objectivity and fairness of Western media reporting on Israel’s offensive to Palestinians.
Western media outlets have been criticized for their biased reporting and for portraying Palestinian resistance fighters as “terrorists” while sympathizing with Israel.
In addition to Hannachi and Oueslati, Bassem Bounneni, a BBC correspondent for North Africa, publicly announced his resignation from the British broadcasting company for similar reasons.
“This morning, I submitted my resignation from the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, as required by my professional conscience,” Bounneni said.
These resignations coincided with Israel’s bombing of the Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza, which became a turning point for many employees from the Arab and Muslim world working for Western companies.
The Israeli airstrike that hit the Gaza hospital caused massive destruction and claimed the lives of at least 500 people, including patients and forcibly displaced individuals seeking shelter.
In addition to its continuous attacks on the Gaza Strip, Israel has cut off electricity, food, water, and fuel supplies to Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said that Israel’s attacks had a severe impact on healthcare infrastructure, adding that the Gaza Strip suffers a critical shortage of medicine.
