Rabat – Many countries, NGOs, and public figures have condemned the heinous bombing of a Gaza hospital by the Israeli air force.
Turkey’s President Tayyp Erdogan described the attack as an “unprecedented brutality,” calling on the world to take action against Israel’s ongoing war on the besieged Gaza Strip.
“Targeting a hospital where women, children, innocent civilians are taking refuge in is the latest example of Israel’s attacks devoid of fundamental human values,” Erdoğan said on X, formerly Twitter.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 500 Palestinians were killed or injured in the Israeli strike on Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital. “Hundreds of victims are still under the rubble,” the ministry added.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also strongly condemned the horrific strike, stressing that early reports indicate hundreds of deaths and injuries.
“We call for the immediate protection of civilians and health care, and for evacuation orders to be reversed,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyeses, WHO’s director general.
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau echoed the prevailing sentiment of shock and indignation, describing the Israeli strike as “unacceptable” and stressing that “it’s not legal to hit a hospital.”
Jordan and Egypt also condemned the attack, with the Egyptian Foreign Ministry describing the indiscriminate and outrageous murdering of civilians as a serious “violation of international humanitarian law and of the most basic values of humanity.”
Jordan also denounced the brutal attack on the hospital, underlining the need to provide international protection for the besieged, oppressed, and desperately Palestinian people.
These expressions of shock and revolt come amid the international community’s failure to put pressure on Israel to end what many have called a brutal and criminal war on civilians in the besieged Palestinian enclave of Gaza.
On Monday, the UN Security Council rejected a Russian resolution urging for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Russian-led draft resolution received five v supportive votes, while four voted against it.
For the council to adopt a resolution, the text needs to receive at least nine votes in favor.
