King Mohammed VI Orders Launch of Game-Changing Social Aid Program

Rabat – In an  address to the parliament today, King Mohammed VI announced the imminent operationalization of a comprehensive direct social aid program, designed to embody the nation’s deeply ingrained values of social solidarity.

“According to our Constitution, the family is the pillar of society. Therefore, I have always sought to make sure the conditions conducive to family cohesion are in place,” he said.

The program, set to launch at the end of the year, extends its support far beyond family allowances, targeting vulnerable segments of society.

This support initiative is primarily intended for school-age children, children with disabilities, newborns, and impoverished families facing precarity. It particularly focuses on households caring for the elderly, recognizing their unique needs.

“Thanks to its direct impact, this program will contribute to raising the standard of living of target families and will help fight poverty and vulnerability, in addition to improving social and human development indicators,” the monarch added.

The program’s direct impact on the targeted families is expected to raise their living standards, reduce poverty and vulnerability, and ultimately enhance social and human development indicators. By fostering solidarity and safeguarding against emergencies and economic fluctuations, the government aims to create a more productive and entrepreneurial society.

King Mohammed VI has instructed that this program be implemented in accordance with a comprehensive vision and the provisions of the framework law on social protection approved by the Parliament. Ths means its implementation will be gradual, aligning with budget allocation changes, optimal coverage levels, financial transfer amounts, and management modalities.

To ensure the success of the program, it will be integrated with the Unified Social Register  targeting system and will take advantage of the efficiency of modern technologies. Emphasizing the principles of solidarity, transparency, and equity in aid distribution, the government intends to benefit those who truly deserve assistance.

King Mohamed VI also called for prioritizing the rationalization of existing social aid programs and securing their effectiveness, as well as ensuring sustainable funding resources.

“I call on the government to give priority to the rationalization of current social benefit schemes and ensure their effectiveness as well as the sustainability of their financing,” he said.

It is essential to ensure good governance of this ambitious project, the King said, noting that a dedicated monitoring and evaluation mechanism will be established to facilitate continuous adaptation and progress.

King Mohammed VI drew inspiration from the Holy Quran to convey its message, underscoring the importance of gratitude and generosity in the service of the nation and its citizens.
