Rabat  – Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita has renewed Morocco’s firm position, stressing the country’s commitment towards efforts to end the bloodshed and Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Bourita made his remarks during the emergency Arab ministerial meeting, chaired by Morocco today in Cairo, Egypt.

During his speech, Bourita emphasized that tampering with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people undermines the prospects for peace.

Bourita also condemned the repeated provocative incursions of Jewish extremists, stressing that the dire situation raises questions for the international community and the UN Security Council regarding the Palestinian cause.

“The bloody and horrific events that began on Saturday, October 7,2023, and the accompanying unprecedented violence, indicate that the region is facing an unprecedented situation, the consequences of which are unpredictable,” Bourita said.

The Moroccan top diplomat also stressed Morocco’s readiness to engage in any Arab and international effort aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Through Bourita, Morocco also stressed the importance of assisting the urgent health and humanitarian needs in Gaza and other affected Palestinian territories, urging international parties to support the peace process.

Last week, Morocco called for an emergency Arab League meeting, stressing that this appeal comes under instructions from King Mohammed VI.

The meeting seeks to coordinate and consult on the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank following the outbreak of violent clashes between Israeli troops and resistance movements in Palestine.

The fight has continued unabated since Saturday, killing at least 1,055 Palestinians.

At the end of the meeting, the Arab Ministerial Council adopted a resolution emphasizing the immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in Gaza, calling on all parties to exercise restraint.

The resolution also condemned the killing of civilians on both sides, while rejecting their indiscriminate targeting.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry today condemned Israel’s relentless airstrikes as well as Israel’s indiscriminate targeting of Palestinian civilians, their lands and belongings.

The ministry recalled the attack by colonialists in the village of Qusra near Nablus, describing the raid as a terrorist attack.

Reports said that Israeli forces and settlers killed at least  three Palestinians  by gunfire, while 11 others were wounded.

The international community, including Morocco have been calling for calm to avoid further deterioration.
