Rabat – In the wake of the unprecedented attack by Hamas on southern Israel, the United States has taken swift action to support Israel.

President Biden’s administration announced today the deployment of an aircraft carrier, ships, and fighter jets to the eastern Mediterranean, along with a commitment to provide Israel with vital equipment and ammunition.

The Hamas attack, which has left a devastating toll in its wake, also claimed the lives of several US. citizens, prompting Washington to act swiftly and decisively. Israel has reported more than 700 casualties and 100 abductions, while Palestinian officials in Gaza have recorded over 400 deaths in the aftermath of retaliatory Israeli airstrikes.

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, accompanied by a missile cruiser and four missile destroyers to the region.

Additionally, fighter jets are being dispatched to bolster the American presence in the region. The White House has assured further military aid for Israel in the coming days, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that Israel’s adversaries do not exploit the current situation.

The magnitude of this deployment underscores American concerns that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas could potentially escalate and embroil other nations in the region. Of particular concern is the involvement of Lebanon’s influential Hezbollah movement, which receives backing from Iran, a nation known to fund and arm Hamas.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has voiced his support for the Hamas attack, holding Israel accountable for destabilizing the region. Hamas, in turn, has acknowledged receiving assistance from Iran for its operation, which involved an array of weaponry, including rockets, drones, and militants utilizing paragliders. The audacious attack also saw hundreds of fighters breach Israeli border fortifications around the Gaza Strip.

While US Secretary of State Antony Blinken clarified that there is no direct evidence of Iranian involvement in this specific attack, he emphasized that Iran’s long-standing support for Hamas is undeniable.

“Hamas wouldn’t be Hamas without the support it’s gotten over many years from Iran. We haven’t yet seen direct evidence that Iran was behind this particular attack or involved. But the support over many years is clear,” Blinken said.

At a United Nations Security Council meeting today, Iran vehemently denied any involvement in the attack on Israel. Meanwhile, the crisis continues to unfold as hundreds of people are still reported missing.

Each year, the US sends Israel, a close ally, billions of dollars in military assistance. Israel has received the most foreign aid from the US overall since World War II.

But critics have decried America’s support for Israel, arguing that the ongoing escalation between Hamas fighters and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is the culmination of years of Israeli occupation and violence in Palestinian territories.

If Not Now, a pacifist Jewish-American organization that calls for the US to end its support for Israel, has said that Israeli occupation is to blame for the ongoing conflict.

In a statement, the anti-zionist group said the blood of all those who have been killed since Saturday “is on the hands of the Israeli government, the US government which funds and excuses their recklessness, and every international leader who continues to turn a blind eye to decades of Palestinian oppression.”
