The congress brought together decision-makers and experts from more than 192 countries to address major challenges in the postal system. The participants explored innovative solutions to enhance the quality of the global postal services.
One of the major outcomes of the event was the endorsement of proposals aiming to deepen engagement with wider postal sector players and expand the reach and efficiency of the global postal services.
The UPU members also set climate action targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, said the union in a press release.
The Congress focused on modernizing postal financial services, envisioning an interconnected approach with wider postal financial service players. This includes the development of legal frameworks for postal payment services and the establishment of an advisory knowledge center to ensure future-ready services.
Addressing the delegates at the closing plenary, UPU Director General Masahiko Metoki emphasized the “extraordinary” power of international collaboration and the significance of the postal sector in connecting people, businesses, and nations.
“As we leave Riyadh, let us carry with us the spirit of collaboration, the determination to innovate, and the unwavering commitment to serve our communities,” he concluded.
