Morocco’s Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) and the Barid Al Maghrib Group sealed on Tuesday in Rabat a partnership agreement aiming to integrate the Amazigh language within the Barid Al-Maghrib Group.
Signed by the president of IRCAM, Ahmed Boukous, and the Director General of Barid Al Maghrib, Amin Benjelloun Touimi, this partnership agreement covers the areas of translation, training, communication, and documentation.
In an interview with Aujourd’hui Le Maroc last year, Boukous indicated that this convention aims to integrate the Amazigh language in the services and administrations under the auspices of Barid Al Maghrib, noting that the integration of Amazigh in many public establishments is beginning to show results.
Boukous further pointed out that IRCAM has been working with Barid Al Maghrib to launch an Amazigh version of its online portal, adding that the objective of this convention is also to employ young graduates of Amazigh studies to communicate with users of Barid Al Maghrib services who speak Amazigh.
Touimi, on the other hand, said this agreement illustrates the desire of Barid Al Maghrib Group to integrate the Amazigh language into its services, indicating that a joint commission composed of representatives of the two institutions has been created to monitor the implementation of this convention.
He noted that Barid Al Maghrib is working to promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage by issuing numerous postage stamps, recalling that the Group issued a postage stamp in Amazigh on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of the glorious Green March.
Under this agreement, IRCAM will support Barid Al Maghrib in translating publications into Amazigh, in addition to their coordination in the translation of traffic signs into Amazigh within the administrative buildings of Barid Al Maghrib, external services and establishments belonging to the group.
This agreement also covers the elaboration of a reference plan that would provide training in the field of Amazigh and support Barid Al Maghrib in the selection and training of qualified personnel in translation into the Amazigh language.
