Rabat – The President of Morocco’s Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa said that the centenary celebration scheduled for the 2030 World Cup is set to take place a week or 10 days before the opening ceremony of the tournament.
Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina will host one match each to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first-ever World Cup which Uruguay hosted in 1930.
The 2030 World Cup, which is set to be jointly hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, will then commence with an opening ceremony, whose exact location will soon be determined, Lekjaa added.
Following the centenary celebrations, “the world will join us as we prepare to organize an exceptional 2030 World Cup with 101 matches, marking a worldwide unanimous consensus, for which we are truly grateful,” Lekjaa said.
The FRMF chief further elaborated that FIFA’s unanimous vote was centered around two events: awarding the World Cup hosting rights to Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, and the centenary celebrations, stressing that the latter is a separate event unrelated to the World Cup organization.
He expressed his hopes for a remarkable and exceptional World Cup in 2030, saying: “We aspire to witness an extraordinary and magnificent end to this era with the coming generations, at a stadium that will be exceptional in Casablanca.”
Lekjaa also noted that Morocco will dedicate six stadiums to host the 2030 World Cup matches, including those of Rabat, Tangier, Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, and the soon-to-be-built Grand Stadium of Casablanca.
