Rabat – Morocco is facing another setback this week as diesel prices soar, surpassing the 14 dirhams per liter mark. In contrast, prices have remained relatively steady, but the sharp increase in diesel costs has stirred worries within both consumer and business circles.
Recently, the price of diesel underwent an upward adjustment of nearly 50 cents at the start of October. Some fuel distributors have begun passing on the increase to consumers as early as Sunday, October 1, while others waited until Monday to make the change.
This latest hike has propelled the cost of a liter of diesel to more than 14 dirhams, while the price of gasoline has held steady at approximately 15.50 dirhams per liter.
Previously faced with the soaring fuel prices, the Moroccan government attempted to take measures to alleviate the impact on professionals in the passenger and freight transport sectors, in the form of subsidies to alleviate the financial burden from residents.
