Rabat – Senegal, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE have all reiterated support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the most serious and credible route to resolving the decades-long dispute over Western Sahara.
The three countries voiced their positions at the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly on Monday.
Hassan Ben Mohammed Al Amri, Saudi Arabia’s representative at the UN, reiterated his country’s “support for the autonomy initiative in the Moroccan Sahara within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” describing it “as a solution in line with international law and the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.”
He also stated his country would reject anything that harms Morocco’s interests or its territorial integrity.
The UAE echoed Saudi Arabia’s support during the same event, reaffirming the Emirates’ consistent support of Morocco’s just cause.
Abu Dhabi supports all the measures Morocco has taken in recent years to defend its legitimate rights, said the Emirati representative, adding that the autonomy plan is an important, serious, and credible basis to end the decades-spanning Sahara dispute.
