Rabat – Morocco and the US have renewed their determination to boost trade cooperation.
Minister of Equipment Nizar Baraka attended a closed door meeting organized by the US embassy to discuss trade on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today.
The event, which marked the attendance of Moroccan companies, served as a platform to explore the various possibilities offered by the American Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in terms of the development and enhancement of commercial relations between Morocco and the US, with a focus on the means to be implemented to promote shared prosperity.
In a statement to the press at the end of this working meeting, Baraka said that the meeting objective was to review major projects that align with the royal instructions and the government program in various areas, with the aim of contributing to their financing.
These projects encompass areas such as desalination of water, interconnection of water basins, wastewater treatment, groundwater management, and supplying rural areas with this vital resource, he added.
The meeting also discussed major projects related to highways and ring roads, as well as various projects in line with the prospective vision of King Mohammed VI.
Trade cooperation between the two countries is based on a Free Trade Agreement the two countries signed in 2004.
Since taking effect in 2006, the US-Morocco FTA has sought to improve commercial opportunities for US exports to Morocco by reducing and eliminating trade barriers.
