Rabat – Morocco is ready to coordinate with and assist all members and stakeholders of the international community to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said on Saturday, urging global action to end Israel’s brutal and devastating siege of the Palestinian enclave.
Describing the situation in Gaza as “tragic and dangerous,” Bourita said Morocco remains committed to ensuring global peace, stability, and prosperity.
The minister made the statement during the Cairo Summit for Peace held in Egypt, where he represented Morocco as the international community seeks to de-escalate the situation that has so far led to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians.
Bourita added that he hopes the summit will send a few important messages to the international community, with the first one being the importance of de-escalation and stopping bloodshed and military violations.
He also stressed the need for protecting civilians in accordance with international human rights laws, and of allowing humanitarian aid to reach the affected people in the Gaza strip sufficiently and quickly.
He also rejected any “solutions” that entail expelling Palestinians from their land or endangering neighboring countries.
The top Moroccan diplomat concluded by reiterating a call for a peace operation to reach a two-state solution, with a Palestinian state built on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Cairo Peace Summit saw participation from 30 countries, in addition to the UN and other regional organizations. The participants gathered to discuss ways to mitigate the humanitarian impact on Gaza through protecting civilians and opening humanitarian corridors.
Israel has launched a barrage of airstrikes and attacks over the past two weeks on the Gaza strip, in response to a surprise attack on Israeli sites by Hamas on October 7.
The strikes have killed over 4,000 Palestinians so far, with Israeli attacks on hospitals, schools, and churches sparking popular uproar across the world, especially in neighboring Arab states.
