Rabat – Israeli airstrikes killed the wife, daughter and son of Wael al-Dahdouh, who is Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in Gaza. Al Jazeera confirmed the news, showing Dahdouh mourning the loss of his family.
A video of al-Dahdouh shows him kneeling on his knees next to the body of his son, saying: “You wanted to be a journalist. Take revenge on us with our children? It’s okay. To God we belong and to him we return.”
Al Jazeera said that its journalist has been known for his “precise coverage of Israeli airstrikes and the numerous massacres committed during its ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip.”
Al-Dahdouh was covering the continuous Israeli airstrikes from the Al Jazeera office in Gaza, when he was surprised by the news of the killing of his family.
“Al-Dahdou’s family had sought shelter in the Nuseirat refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip after he realized that he wouldn;t be able to focus on them amid the continuous bombardment and his diligent work in covering the aggression,” Al Jazeera reported.
The killing of Dahdouh’s family came a few hours after a report from Axios said that US Secretary General Antony Blinken reportedly asked Qatar “to tone down Al Jazeera’s rhetoric about the war in Gaza.”
Israeli aggression has killed over 6,000 people since October 7. A report from UNICEF said that the aggression killed over 2,360 children.
Over 5,364 children have been injured.
UNICEF identified the ongoing crisis as a “growing stain on our collective conscience,” appealing to all parties involved to agree on a ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid to access the affected Palestinian territories
