Rabat – FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed Saudi Arabia as the official host of the 2034 World Cup.
Saudi Arabia won the tournament’s hosting rights after Australia chose to forgo its bid to host the 2034 World Cup.
Australia announced its decision just hours before FIFA’s deadline for football federation to submit their declarations of interest today. This has left Saudi Arabia as the sole country bidding to host the tournament.
“Football unites the world like no other sport, and the FIFA World Cup is the perfect showcase for a message of unity and inclusion,” Infantino said today on Instagram.
He celebrated the fact that the next three editions of the World Cup will be hosted in five continents and 10 countries, “making football truly global.”
The 2026 World Cup will be hosted in North America by Canada, the US, and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the 2030 World Cup will be hosted in Africa and Europe by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, with Latin American countries Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay hosting three opening matches in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the tournament.
Infantino added that the 2034 World Cup will take place in Asia after Saudi Arabia won hosting rights.
He noted that the three bidding processes were approved by consensus via the FIFA Council, “after constructive dialogue and extensive consultation.”
