Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lions have maintained their position as the 13th best football team in the world according to the latest FIFA rankings, with a score of 1661.69.
Morocco’s win against Tanzania as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers allowed the Atlas Lions to maintain the same position they have had for several months in the FIFA ranking.
It also made the Atlas Lions resecure its leading position in Africa in the November FIFA Ranking.
Globally, 2022 world champions Argentina remains on the top of the list followed by fellow finalists France. England came in third followed by Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia.
Morocco also topped the list of teams in Africa, followed by Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.
Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui is determined to see his Atlas Lions reach advanced levels of upcoming prestigious competitions including the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) and the 2026 World Cup.
Following the qualifier game against Tanzania, Regragui celebrated the win, emphasizing the importance of starting the qualifier campaign with a victory.
He emphasized that the Atlas Lions are adopting an approach that each match should be like a World Cup or a “top-level game.”
For the coach, the victory gives a boost in confidence to the national team prior to the AFCON, which will kick off on January 13 in Cote d’Ivoire.
Regragui, however, warned the team that the qualifiers are different from the AFCON competition, stressing that the national team needs to remain humble and work hard to make Moroccans proud again.
