Rabat – Abdellatif Bardach, Chairman of Morocco’s National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE), has been appointed head of the French-speaking Network of Energy Regulators (RegulaE.Fr), following a ceremony at its general assembly in Rabat on Wednesday.
Succeeding his predecessor Simon Turmel, Director of the Quebec Energy Board, Bardach expressed his commitment to advancing the achievements of his predecessors and introducing new perspectives to meet contemporary challenges.
“It will be a great honor for me to continue and build on the efforts of my predecessors while bringing new perspectives and ambitious initiatives to address the challenges of our time and the issues of our profession,” Bardach emphasized.
The announcement coincided with ANRE hosting the Workshop and General Assembly of RegulaE.Fr on November 21-22 in Rabat. In collaboration with the European Commission, the event saw the participation of 160 representatives from 21 countries, including the heads of regulatory authorities from African nations within the network.
Reflecting on the importance of his new role, Bardach stressed: “There is no better way to pay tribute to my counterparts than to emphasize the imperative of action. It will be a precious opportunity to amplify the Kingdom’s voice and to serve my country in these new functions.”
Bardach, who also holds the presidency of the Association of Mediterranean Energy Regulators (MEDREG), sees the appointment as a testament to Morocco’s credibility with international organizations and associations.
Underscoring his commitment to tangible achievements in renewable energy, Bardach stated: “The consolidation of our concrete achievements in the field of renewable energies will also be a priority, particularly by mobilizing for the effective implementation of energy interconnections.”
