Rabat – Members of the judicial police on November 20 arrested two employees who work in call centers suspected of breach of trust and harming automated data processing systems in Oujda, northeast of Morocco.

According to a security source, the two suspects allegedly exploited their employment as call center agents under contract with a foreign telecoms contractor, to use its customer database to take advantage of mobile phones in their care.

Following the completion of research and investigations, the two employees implicated in this case were identified, and they were taken into custody in Oujda.

The police search carried out inside one of the suspects’ home resulted in the discovery of three mobile phones and a laptop, in addition to a sum of money suspected to be the proceeds of this criminal activity.

The two suspects were kept under theoretical guard pending judicial investigation supervised by the competent Public Prosecution, in order to identify all possible extensions of this criminal activity, as well as uncover all criminal acts attributed to the defendants.

On the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Spanish legal authorities, police at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport detained a 40-year-old Bulgarian man in August on suspicion of involvement in financial fraud and cybercrime.

National security officers at the airport carried out the arrest in response to an Interpol red warning, claiming he was a member of a criminal organization that was accessing bank data and using it for fraudulent purposes.

The airport security system flagged the suspect as he was getting ready to board a flight to an unidentified Arab destination.
