Rabat – A training course on the integration of women and gender perspectives in the Armed Forces will take place between November 13-17 at the South Zone Staff in Agadir, for the benefit of Royal Armed Forces (FAR) officers and executives from seven different countries.
The training course is organized in partnership with Canada and aims to implement the UN Security Council resolutions on “Women, Peace, and Security.”
The program aims to enable the gaining of new knowledge and consolidating accomplishments in the field of gender in peace operations, according to a press release published by the FAR General Staff.
Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita had previously expressed Morocco’s commitment to involving women in the peacemaking process.
In early 2022, he announced the launch of Morocco’s national action plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), saying that “the presentation of this plan is not an exercise in formalism, it is rather a direct implementation of resolution 1325 and successive resolutions of the security council.”
In November 2022, ConnectinGroup International organized an event in Morocco’s capital Rabat to examine women’s involvement in issues of peacekeeping and conflict resolution.
The event saw the presentation of Morocco’s own plan in the domain, which would mainly focus on the “positioning of women in decision-making” in security and peace, as well as gender equality, according to ConnectinGroup International President Nouzha Bouchareb.
Director of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s office in Morocco Sebastian Vagt also highlighted women’s role during the event.
“Being a former military officer myself, I can tell that women contribute a lot to peacebuilding, but also to the armed forces,” he said.
