Rabat – Morocco’s government ordered the distribution of the second batch of direct aid to households impacted by the September 8 earthquake on November 1, according to news outlet Le360.
Following the devastating disaster, Morocco’s government announced a direct financial aid package to the families affected, to the tune of MAD 2,500 every month ($246) every month for one year.
“Most of the fathers in this douar work as day laborers in agriculture or construction. The earthquake complicated matters, but things are much better with direct aid,” Le360 quoted Bihi Benhammou, one of the inhabitants, as saying.
Recipients of the aid packages must visit a bank location to pick up the money after receiving a code on their phone.
Mobile bank facilities have been established for victims of the catastrophe in a number of locations, with operations extending to the weekends.
The first batch of direct aid to affected families was released on October 6, with locals praising the government’s mobilization and stating that they have enough funds to cover their essentials.
The devastating earthquake hit the Al Haouz region and surroundings on September 8, and caused destruction to tens of thousands of homes and families.
In addition to direct financial assistance, the government is dedicating aid to rebuilding the homes affected by the disaster. Families are set to receive MAD 140,000 ($13,800) for completely collapsed homes and MAD 80,000 ($7,800) for partially collapsed homes.
