Rabat – Two Moroccan young men exhibited their courage on Thursday after leaping into the icy waters of the Brussels Canal to rescue an individual from drowning.
A widely circulated video online captured the act, showing the two young men plunging into the water without hesitation to save the individual from what appeared to be certain death.
A concerned bystander can be heard in the video advising one of the Moroccan men not to jump into the canal because of the freezing water.
However, the person recording the scene, also a Moroccan, responded by saying, “Let him pull him out … Do you want him to leave him there to die?”
Once the two Moroccans pulled the unconscious man to the water’s surface, bystanders immediately called the Brussels Fire Department, who swiftly arrived at the scene.
According to a spokesperson from the fire department, their rescue team wasted no time in pulling the three individuals from the water. However, the unconscious man was in critical condition and needed immediate medical attention.

“Our divers pulled everyone out of the water. The first person was unconscious, and immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated,” he said, Belgian outlet RTL Info reported.
Meanwhile, the two Moroccan men, suffering from hypothermia, were transported to the hospital to receive medical attention.
The outlet reported that CCTV footage of the incident showed that the man who initially fell into the canal willingly jumped into the water.
The circumstances behind his voluntary leap remain uncertain, with the possibility of suicide being considered.
The two men’s selfless and courageous acts has garnered widespread admiration online.
