Rabat – A new session of the Africa Working Group under the Morocco-United States Strategic Dialogue was held Monday in Washington. During the session, both countries reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their strong and enduring partnership on the African continent.
The discussions focused on the commitment of Rabat and Washington to deepen their historically solid partnership and extend their collaborative efforts across the African continent.
The officials consulted on mutual efforts to promote regional stability, security, prosperity, and development in Africa, according to a statement by the Department of State.
They also explored avenues for strengthening trade and economic ties, and promoting governance and development partnerships.
The meeting saw the participation of a ministerial delegation led by Morocco’s Ambassador and Director-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fouad Yazourh.
The delegation included figures from various Moroccan government agencies, such as AMCI and AMDIE, as well as directors and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Investment, the Royal Armed Forces, security services, and the Rabita Mohammadia of Oulemas.
Yazourh had a meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Ambassador Molly Phee. Their discussions focused on the shared determination of Morocco and the US to infuse an African dimension into their longstanding and strong partnership.
The American delegation was led by the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of African Affairs, Jonathan Pratt, and the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, Joshua Harris.
The delegation comprised several high-ranking officials from the Departments of Commerce, Defense, International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the US. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Office of the US Trade Representative.
The two parties explored new opportunities for bilateral and triangular cooperation on the continent, with a particular focus on investment and promoting partnerships in development and clean energy solutions.
In addition, they reviewed efforts to enhance cooperation in counterterrorism, which involves consolidating multinational security responses, peacekeeping operations, and strengthening regional defense and security capacities.
