Rabat – UN representatives said that the Israeli airstrike targeting the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza could amount to war crimes.

“Given the high number of civilian casualties & the scale of destruction following Israeli airstrikes on Jabalia refugee camp, we have serious concerns that these are disproportionate attacks that could amount to war crimes,”  The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights wrote on X, previously Twitter.

The comment came after Israeli occupation forces struck the camp for the second day in a row, disregarding concerns that followed the first attack on Tuesday.

Reports confirmed the killing of at least 195 people, while 100 others are thought to be missing beneath the rubble.

The aggression against the refugee camp also injured over 770 people.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres renewed concerns on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for an urgent end to the violence in Gaza.

The Spokesperson of the UNSG said that Guterres is “appalled over the escalating violence in Gaza, including the killing of Palestinians, including women, children, and Israeli airstrikes in residential areas of the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp.”

Israeli aggression has killed nearly  8,800 people so far, including at least 3,600 children.

The situation prompted worldwide concerns, with a growing number of countries deciding to recall their ambassadors to protest Israel’s ongoing strikes.

In addition to Guterres, The UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths also condemned the world’s silence, describing the situation as the “latest atrocity to befall the people of Gaza.”

“The world seems unable, or unwilling to act,” he added.
