Rabat – As Israeli forces prepare to target the northern region, a statement by Ben Shapiro, arguably the most outspoken US supporter of Zionism and a feisty, unapologetic pro-Israel commentator, quoted by Bassem Youssef, echoes in the background: “Israel is the only military force in the world that warns civilians before bombing them.”
This assertion found real-life illustration on Tuesday as Israel exhorted Palestinian civilians to evacuate the area with a “generous” four-hour window before military airstrikes.
Notably, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) underscored the Israeli military’s call for the evacuation of Rantisi Hospital, which stands as the sole pediatric facility in the northern Gaza Strip that remains untouched yet by Israeli military bombardment.
According to OCHA, approximately 15,000 Palestinians fled the besieged northern city on Tuesday due to Israel’s military aggression. The agency reported, “Most of them, including children, the elderly, and the disabled, arrived on foot with minimal personal belongings.”
The humanitarian situation remains dire. Palestinian health officials reported that an airstrike on Wednesday morning struck houses in the Nuseirat refugee camp, resulting in the tragic loss of 18 lives. Additionally, in Khan Younis, six individuals, including a young girl, fell victim to another airstrike.
This massive displacement of Palestinians, who are enduring the relentless Israeli bombardments, exacerbates an already critical humanitarian situation.
According to OCHA, at least 2.1 million Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory require humanitarian assistance, representing 58% of Gaza’s population and a quarter of the inhabitants of the West Bank.
The agency also pointed out that in Gaza, more than 1.5 million people have fled their homes.
With a staggering toll of over 10,569 Palestinians killed in the past month alone, 40% of them children, and over 26,000 wounded, the ongoing Israeli genocide in Palestine remains a heartbreaking tragedy which, sadly, has not yet reached a level that would compel the Western powers to impose a ceasefire.
