Rabat – Palestinians’ resilience amid the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank is sparking a global interest in Islam, leading individuals to explore the religion with curiosity and admiration.

Some have even embraced Islam, while others found solace and inspiration in its teachings, quoting verses from the Quran and expressing admiration for its messages.

For over 75 years, Palestinians have endured the harsh realities of Israeli occupation, witnessing the loss of their homes, the theft of their land, and the tragic loss of their families.

Further exacerbating their turmoil, the recent cycle of violence that started on October 7 has killed over 10,000 Palestinians and destroyed more than half of Gaza’s residential units.

In the midst of this ongoing turmoil, the world has been captivated by the resilience and unyielding faith displayed by Palestinians who had their entire lives destroyed.

Their unbreakable spirit and deep-rooted devotion to their faith have been sources of inspiration for many, as they consistently demonstrate the values of patience and perseverance taught by their religion.

Many have taken to social media to express their admiration and how the ongoing crisis in Gaza was an opportunity for them to explore Islam and its teachings.

“I began reading the Quran yesterday and it’s beautiful. I am not a Muslim, but I stand with Palestine,” one social media user said.

Many realized the limited knowledge they had of Islam, realizing how different it is from Western narratives once they started reading about it.

“I did not know any of this stuff .. the propaganda runs deep … I’m deprogramming as I’m trying to get education materials,” another person said on TikTok.

The opportunity to learn about Islam even led some to decide to embrace the religion.

“I converted to Islam 3 days ago and now I’m learning more about Islam. Quran is healing and mercy for believers,” another social media user said.

Islam, the official religion in 26 countries across Asia and Africa, is the fastest-growing religion in the world, according to a 2017 report by the Pew Research Center.

The report expects that Islam will overtake Christianity as the world’s largest religion.

“Muslims will grow more than twice as fast as the overall world population between 2015 and 2060 and, in the second half of this century, will likely surpass Christians as the world’s largest religious group,” said the report.

It added that babies born to Muslim parents will start to outnumber those born to Christians by 2035.

While the world’s population is projected to grow by 32% in the next decades, the Muslim population is expected to increase by 70%, from 1.8 billion in 2015 to nearly 3 billion in 2060.
