Rabat – Morocco’s national futsal team coach Hicham Dguig has credited the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), led by Fouzi Lekjaa, and royal support for the development of Moroccan futsal.
In an interview with Moroccan outlet Al Omk Sport on Tuesday, Dguig said the national team’s achievements reflect a broader project that goes beyond the work of the coaching staff and players.
The coach described Lekjaa as the driving force behind Morocco’s futsal project, highlighting the federation’s role in developing domestic competitions, improving training conditions, and investing in youth categories and infrastructure.
Dguig stressed that Morocco’s progress in futsal did not happen by chance but resulted from a long-term strategy aimed at developing the sport at different levels.
He added that maintaining the national team’s success requires continued investment in youth development, stronger domestic competitions, and greater attention to younger players.
The coach also highlighted the importance of royal support for Moroccan sport, describing it as a source of motivation to pursue further achievements.
Dguig sets sights on World Cup progress
Morocco’s fourth consecutive Africa Cup of Nations futsal title reflects the progress made under the current project, according to Dguig.
However, the coach stressed that continental success should not mark the end of Morocco’s ambitions.
He said the national team must continue improving its performances and aim to go beyond the quarterfinal stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
Morocco has established itself as one of Africa’s leading futsal nations, but advancing further on the global stage remains a major objective.
Dguig believes that achieving this goal requires sustained development across the entire domestic system, rather than relying solely on the senior national team’s results.
He identified youth training, improvements to the domestic league, and the continued development of the sport’s infrastructure as key priorities for the coming years.
Dguig prioritizes Morocco project over foreign offers
Dguig also addressed his commitment to the Moroccan national team, saying that foreign offers and financial incentives do not outweigh his desire to continue the work he has started in Morocco.
The coach said developing Moroccan futsal remains one of his main priorities, with a focus on strengthening the foundations needed to sustain the national team’s achievements.
His comments reflect a long-term vision built around cooperation between the federation, the technical staff, and the country’s broader sporting institutions.
With four consecutive continental titles behind them, Morocco will look to build on their dominance in Africa and translate that success into stronger performances at the World Cup.
