Rabat – Moroccan head coach national football team Walid Regragui said that the Moroccan national team has a “long way to go” to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“We are awaiting a difficult game against Tanzania, and we are longing for a positive result like all the teams that are looking forward to participating in the World Cup,” Regragui told the press ahead of Morocco’s game against Tanzania.
The coach went on to say that “we do not consider ourselves special because of what we achieved in the World Cup.”
“We have a lot of respect for the Tanzanian team, and we know that its players are very excited to face us, because this is the match of the year for them,” he added.
Regragui stated that he does not look back at the results of the two teams’ prior meetings, and that tomorrow’s game will take place in an entirely different environment.
According to him, the team might drop a few points in the qualification round, but he is more concerned about winning and making it to the World Cup.
“If we win tomorrow’s match, it does not mean that we will qualify for the World Cup, and if we do not win, it does not mean that we will not qualify,” Regragui stressed.
The Tanzanian national team began the qualifiers for the World Cup by defeating Niger 1-0 in the first round.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan national team’s match that was supposed to take place on November 16 against Eritrea was canceled after the team withdrew from the qualifiers.
