Rabat – Marcus Rashford’s future is in the spotlight again, with Turkish side Fenerbahce reportedly wanting to sign him this summer.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona. It was meant to be a fresh start after a difficult spell at Manchester United, England. The move worked out well on the pitch. He played a key role in Barcelona’s LaLiga title victory and showed some of his best performances in years.
Despite that form, Barcelona did not make the deal permanent. The loan included a buy-option worth a reported £26 million. Barcelona chose not to trigger it.
Instead, Barcelona turned their eyes for other wingers. They signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. They are also close to a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi. That left no chance and space, or need, for Rashford at Camp Nou.
Fenerbahce’s interest
Fenerbahce already signed former United forward Mason Greenwood this summer. According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, the club now wants to reunite Greenwood with Rashford. Club officials reportedly travelled to Manchester for talks.
Reports differ on Rashford’s own view. Rashford has no interest in a move to Turkey at this stage of his career, The reliable Fabrizio Romano has reported, stressing Romano says Rashford will assess his future only after pre-season training with United.
Meanwhile, converging reports suggest Manchester United manager Michael Carrick wants to work with Rashford in pre-season before deciding his role. There is reportedly no personal issue between the two. But a firm offer from a Champions League club could still change things.
Why does it matter for United’s rebuild?
Rashford earns a reported £325,000 a week, one of United’s highest wages. Moving him on would free up funds and squad space. United have already been active in the transfer market this summer, and a Rashford exit could open the door for further incoming deals.
