Rabat – King Mohammed VI sent today a message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, congratulating him on the occasion of his re-election to his country’s presidency for a third term.
“I am pleased to extend to you my warmest congratulations on the brotherly Egyptian people’s renewal of confidence in you, and I wish you every success in leading them to further progress and prosperity,” the message read.
The King also expressed his “great pride” at the “excellent” ties between Morocco and Egypt, adding that he is looking forward to strengthening the relations and elevating cooperation in various fields.
Morocco and Egypt share strong ties that they have worked to develop over the years.
In September, the Moroccan Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Safety and Security (AMSSNuR) and the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in the area of nuclear safety and security, marking another milestone in the ties between the two countries.
El-Sisi was elected with 89.6% of the votes on Monday, after the country of votes was concluded for the elections held between December 10 and 12.
The National Elections Authority head Hazem Badawy said the elections had an “unprecedented” 66.8% turnout, with over 39 million voters casting their vote for Sisi.
The election took place as Egypt, the most populous Arab country, continues to face a years-long economic crisis against a backdrop of escalating violence by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in the neighboring Gaza Strip.
