Morocco and the Netherlands signed a cooperation agreement on extradition on Monday in Rabat.
Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi and his Dutch counterpart Dilan Yesilgoz signed the agreement, which is part of the activation of the legal and judicial cooperation program between the two countries to facilitate the transfer of suspects or convicts from one country to another.
A statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Justice said the agreement represents an effective mechanism in the field of comparing transborder crime, as well as reducing the risks of impunity.
The agreement is also part of Morocco’s efforts to strengthen the country’s position in the fight against transcontinental crime, the statement added.
The ministry also quoted Ouahbi as stressing that this agreement follows the continuity of the “judicial cooperation protocol between the two countries.”
“We consider it a great appreciation for the strong historical partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands,” he added.
The statement also quoted the Dutch minister as emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation against organized crimes.
“International criminal networks continuously work to strengthen their illegal practices in weapons, drug, and human trafficking. They constantly change their smuggling methods to transfer illegally acquired money abroad for money laundering,” Yesilgoz added.
She emphasized the importance of cooperation with Morocco to collaborate closely to prevent criminals from seeking refuge beyond their borders.
“With this document, we strengthen the strong relations we have built with Morocco, and we intensify the joint fight against organized transborder crime,” the official added.
