Rabat – CAF featured Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Sofyan Amrabat as part of the BEST Men XI Team during the CAF Awards ceremony taking place in Marrakech.
Both players had spectacular performances with the national team during World Cup qualifier games as well as during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Amrabat, who now plays for Manchester United, was considered Morocco’s “iron man” during the 2022 World Cup.
Many news outlets described him as the “hero” of Morocco’s national team.
Hakimi also showed amazing performances during national team games during the World Cup, notably scoring the winning penalty against Spain in the Round of 16.
In addition to this recognition, Hakimi was also named in the Men’s World 11.
The athlete received the award as part of the FIFA Best Award 2022 in Paris in February.
The FIFA Men’s World 11 is a selection of “exceptional performers in their respective positions,” and is decided by other football players.
The Paris Saint-Germain player also made the shortlist for CAF’s Player of the Year category, but ultimately lost to Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen.
