Rabat – Travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller featured Morocco among the 10 most googled travel destinations in 2023.

The magazine published its list on Monday, detailing the places that travelers were most excited to visit this year, according to search giant Google.

The magazine briefed its audiences about Morocco, including the devastating earthquake that struck the North African country on September 8.

Despite the earthquake, the country has been receiving millions of tourists from across the world.

“The country is still recovering, but the response from travelers was strong,” the magazine wrote.

Conde Nast Traveller emphasized that travelers have been encouraged to continue visiting the country to contribute to its recovery.

Describing Morocco as a “jewel box of colours,” the magazine recalled the diverse sights and sounds in its cities as well as a “vast expanse of history and culture beyond.”

“We’re not surprised the support for this gem of a country is in the top 10 this year.”

The other nine destinations include Malta, Egypt, Thailand, Cyprus, Croatia, Portugal, and Italy, as well as Spain and Greece.

Tourism is one of the main driving forces in Morocco’s economy. Revenues from the sector reached MAD 88.4 billion ($8.7 billion) in the first 10 months of 2023, a 20% year-on-year increase, according to data from Morocco’s Exchange Office.

The data shows that the number reached as of October 10 exceeded revenues from 2019.

By the end of October, Morocco also recorded more than 12.3 million tourist arrivals.

Compared to the 8.8 million arrivals recorded last year, the latest numbers indicate a growth of 39%.
