Rabat – Morocco will host the 33rd session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Conference for Africa, the Moroccan Agriculture Ministry announced in a statement today.
The event will take part in different formats, including in-person meetings and a virtual session for senior officials on March 27-29, added the statement, stressing that this event will address the technical aspects of food security and the transformation of agrifood systems in Africa.
A ministerial session will take place from April 18-20 in Rabat, convening FAO members from the African region, specialized UN agencies, as well as intergovernmental and civil organizations, among other experts.
According to the ministry’s statement, the event will mark cultural and linguistic diversity, taking into account different languages, including En Arabic, English, French, and Portuguese.
Morocco and FAO signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding, defining the terms of the partnership and establishing the measures necessary for the success of the 33rd session of the conference.
FAO’s representative Jean Senahoun signed the partnership with Minister of Agriculture Mohammed Sadiki.
Commenting on the agreement, the Moroccan agriculture minister said that the memorandum of agreement reiterates Morocco’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive agrifood systems in Africa.
“We look forward to welcoming the regional community to share our experiences, and explore innovative solutions and strong partnerships for more efficient and resilient agrifood systems,” he said.
Senahoun also emphasized the importance of the event, commending Morocco’s commitment to food security and sustainable development across the African continent.
