Rabat – Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi has been making the rounds as she became the first Arab female referee to officiate an Africa Cup of Nations game in history.

Converging reports celebrated Karboubi today as she officiated the AFCON game between Nigeria vs Guinea Bissau game.

“Karkoubi is the first Arab and the second African female referee to officiate a match in the African Cup of Nations for men’s football following the Rwandan Salima KAasagana who officiated in the previous edition of the African Championship,” Al Sharq reported.

Ammon News also highlighted Karboubi’s achievement, stressing that the female referee “made history” in AFCON by officiating today’s clash between the two teams.

The news outlet praised the referee, stressing that she possesses a “strong personality” on the field and the ability to “skillfully control and lead matches.”

Karboubi made her debut as an international referee in 2016, a few years later, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected her among the “Elite A” or first-class category referees

Karboubi has officiated several important games.

She officiated Morocco’s Throne Cup final in 2022 and she made history in 2020 as the first female referee in Morocco’s top men’s football league, the Botola Pro 1.

The referee was also appointed as the main referee for the group stage game between the US and Vietnam at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
