Rabat – South Africa secured a commanding victory over Namibia with a 3-0 score on Sunday evening at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The match witnessed South Africa’s relentless pursuit of goals and a standout performance from Themba Zwane.
The opening minutes saw both teams engaged in a fierce battle for control, but as the clock ticked on, South Africa began to assert their dominance.
The turning point came in the 12th minute when a handball inside Namibia’s penalty area awarded South Africa a penalty kick. Percy Tau stepped up to the challenge, converting the spot-kick and giving his team an early lead.
As the first half progressed, South Africa continued to apply pressure, seeking to widen their advantage. In the 25th minute, Themba Zwane delivered a clinical shot from inside the box, doubling South Africa’s lead.
Just before the halftime whistle, Zwane struck again in the 42nd minute with a beautiful cross-shot, extending South Africa’s lead to 3-0. Namibia’s attempts to counter were thwarted, and the teams headed to the locker rooms with South Africa firmly in control.
The second half commenced with South Africa maintaining their momentum from the first 45 minutes. Soon after, Thapelo Maseko’s shot for South Africa’s fourth in the 75th minute of the game.
Despite Namibia’s efforts to mount a comeback, South Africa’s defense remained staunch, and their attacking prowess continued to pose a threat. The final whistle signaled South Africa’s triumphant 3-0 victory, securing their position in the tournament and leaving Namibia facing a challenging path ahead.
