Rabat – Algeria will face its Burkinabe counterpart on its second matchday of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), organized in Cote d’Ivoire between January 13 to February 11.
The match will take place at Bouake Stadium at 3:00 p.m. Moroccan Time, and will be broadcast on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK as well as via the Sky Go application.
Last lifting the trophy in 2019, Algeria will aim to make its fans proud one more time by clinching a second title, a notable feat considering their absence in the 2021 AFCON edition.
However, Algeria had a dissatisfying first entrance into the competition, with a 1-1 draw with Angola. This result, according to the head coach Djamel Belmadi, stemmed from errors on the defense, the Egyptian daily Ahram Online reported on Tuesday.
“This is not the result we expected. We were expecting to have three points. We tried our best and didn’t want to lose the game so we did what we could do to get a point, which was necessary,” Belmadi stated.
Speaking about today’s game against Burkina Faso, Belmadi stressed the importance of learning from errors, saying: “We are in a transitional period so we try for this team to work together and we have also learned lessons from this game for our remaining games.”
Burkina Faso, however, is entering the match with high spirits coming off of their 1-0 victory against Mauritania. They aim to keep the same track of success in the remaining games.
