Morocco Deepens Diplomatic Bonds with Guatemala During Presidential Inauguration

Rabat – Representing King Mohammed VI, Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the Chamber of Representatives, delivered warm regards and a commitment to enhanced collaboration at the inauguration of Guatemala’s President Bernardo Arévalo in Guatemala-City on monday.

Accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Guatemala, Tarik Louajri, President Talbi El Alami conveyed King Mohammed VI’s congratulations to President Arévalo on assuming the highest office in Guatemala.

In a statement to MAP, the Moroccan press agency, El Alami said that this ceremony not only symbolized a momentous occasion for Guatemala, but also served as a platform for Morocco to express its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across all sectors.

Meanwhile, King Moahmmed VI addressed to President Arévalo a personal message, in which the Moroccan monarch congratulated the newly elected president and wished him success in his new role.

The King also highlighted Morocco’s commitment to deepening its significant and strategic friendship with Guatemala, noting the need for the two countries to strengthen their evolving bilateral cooperation across various domains and in line with a spirit of South-South friendship.

Sunday’s discussions, held on the sidelines of the presidential inauguration, delved into the core of Morocco-Guatemala relations. President Talbi El Alami engaged in high-level talks with Guatemalan leaders, including a meeting with President Arévalo, emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Morocco’s commitment to deepening ties with the Latin American country was reiterated, encompassing a wide spectrum of collaborative endeavors.

Accompanied by Ambassador Tariq Louajri, the President of the Chamber of Representatives also held discussions with Vice President Karin Herrera and Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado.

These dialogues highlighted the excellent parliamentary relations between Morocco and Guatemala, emphasizing the potential for bilateral and multilateral cooperation to become a fundamental pillar in the Rabat-Guatemala City relationship, particularly in areas such as the economy, trade, investments, and culture.

Notably, last October, Guatemala expressed support for Morocco’s efforts to seek a political and peaceful solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

Guatemala acknowledged the autonomy initiative as a realistic, credible, and serious basis for a negotiated solution, within the framework of respecting Morocco’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
