Rabat – A Moroccan teenager suspected of orchestrating a global e-commerce scam was apprehended in a joint operation by Moroccan and US authorities, uncovering an international cybercrime network, according to a press release issued on Monday January 15.
The National Judicial Police Division, working under the supervision of the specialized public prosecutor’s office, launched an investigation after uncovering the minor’s alleged involvement in defrauding businesses and inciting others to join the criminal network.
The scheme, meticulously crafted by the young suspect and his associates across the Atlantic, revolved around manipulating online orders. They would swap genuine products with empty packages, falsely claim discrepancies to e-commerce platforms, and pocket the refunds.
But the teenager’s alleged reach extended far beyond individual scams. Authorities suspect he played a key role in managing websites and online forums dedicated to teaching others the tricks of the trade, profiting from a cut of their illicit earnings.
